Office at 3802 E. Joe Ramsey Blvd.Contacts

Many people who need corrective lenses opt to try contact lenses. Contacts have no frames to restrict your field of view. They don't fog up or get splattered with rain. And you may think you look better without glasses.

Salazar Eyecare can help you decide whether contacts are right for you and, if so, which type will best correct your vision and fit your lifestyle. We offer Acuvue 2, Acuvue Colors, CIBA, Cooper Vision, Fresh Look Colors, and Bausch & Lomb contact lenses.

Types of Contact Lenses

  • rigid gas-permeable (RGP) - correct most vision problems, easy to care for, durable, last a long time, available in tints and bifocals
  • daily-wear soft lenses -comfortable and easy to wear, do not correct all vision problems, vision may not be as sharp as RGP lenses, soil easily and need to be replaced, available in tints and bifocals
  • extended-wear - may be soft or RGP, can be worn continuously up to 7 days, do not correct all vision problems, require regular monitoring
  • extended-wear disposable - soft lenses, worn continuously 1-6 days and discarded, require little or no cleaning, do not correct all vision problems, vision may not be as sharp as RGP lenses, available in tints and bifocals
  • planned replacement - soft lenses, daily wear lenses replaced on a regular schedule (usually 2 weeks or monthly), simplified cleaning and disinfection, vision may not be as sharp as RGP lenses, do not correct all vision problems

Correcting Presbyopia (age-related nearsightedness)

Several vision correction options are available for contact lens wearers over 40.

  • monovision: using one lens for reading and close work on the non-dominant eye and the other lens for distance vision. Most people easily adjust to monovision.
  • bifocal contact lenses: vision corrections for near and far vision are in one lens. Some types use concentric vision fields, other are have the reading correction at the bottom of the lens like bifocal glasses.
  • reading glasses: some prefer to wear glasses for close work over their distance vision contacts.

Caring for Your Contact Lenses

  • Your contactspay close attention to the care instructions given in our office
  • follow your lens care and wearing instructions EXACTLY
  • schedule regular follow-up visits
  • wash your hands thoroughly before handling your contacts (don’t use cream soaps - they can leave a film on your lenses)
  • handle contacts over a clean towel (if you drop one it will stay clean and undamaged)
  • store your lenses in their case and keep the case clean
  • never put a contact lens in your mouth or moisten it with saliva - it could lead to infection
  • use the cleaners and solutions recommended for your lenses

Cautions: are you ready for contacts?

  • contacts require a more involved eye exam than glasses and more follow-up to keep your eyes healthy
  • contacts require more time for care and cleaning than glasses
  • the contact lens care routine can require a greater adjustment than adapting to glasses
  • to protect your vision and eye health, cleaning and storage is very important
  • disposable or planned replacement lenses require you to follow a strict replacement schedule
  • you may need more frequent eye exams
